毎日通う最寄駅のトイレの壁を、私は日々目にしている。

同じ風景を毎日繰り返し見続けるうちに、それが清潔で整った空間であっても、次第に意識されなくなり、風景はただの背景として処理されていく。本作は、このような日常の中で見慣れ、気に留められなくなった連続性を積み重ねることで、作品として成立し得るのかという問いを起点に制作した。

見過ごされてきた要素をあらためて抽出し、再構築することで、そこに潜んでいた新たな美的価値を見出すことができるのではないかと考えた。日々の連続性を「版」という形式に置き換え、同一のモチーフを反復することで、均質な風景を装飾的に変換し、意識されにくい不正美を可視化することを試みている。

 

制作にあたっては、最寄駅トイレのタイルをフロッタージュによって採取し、それをもとにリトグラフ版を制作した。刷り上げた約2500枚の紙片を、メンディングテープを用いて一枚ずつ貼り合わせることで、日常の反復行為そのものを身体的な制作プロセスとしても重ね合わせている。

Every day, I look at the wall of the restroom at the station I use most frequently. Repeated exposure to the same scene gradually causes even a clean and orderly space to fade from conscious awareness, becoming mere background. This work originates from the question of whether such familiar and overlooked continuity of everyday life can be accumulated and transformed into an artwork.

 

By reconstructing elements that have become invisible through habit, I aim to reveal new aesthetic perspectives embedded within the ordinary. Translating daily repetition into the form of a printing matrix, the repeated use of the same motif transforms a uniform landscape into an ornamental structure, rendering visible a form of unnoticed or “irregular” beauty that exists beneath the surface of daily life.

 

Technically, the work is based on frottage taken from the tiles of the restroom at my local station, which was then transferred onto a lithographic plate. Approximately 2,500 prints were produced from this plate. Each print was individually assembled and connected using mending tape, creating a single installation. Through this repetitive and time-consuming process, the act of making itself mirrors the accumulation of everyday routines, embedding lived time and bodily labor directly into the work.
