Concept

日々見慣れた田園風景の中に佇む、トタン製の小屋。その一見すると寂しげで、ありふれた風景を、作品として成立させることはできないかと考え制作した。

身近な距離感や、日常の中で無意識に受け取っている質感を素材のレベルで再現するため、ポリカーボネート製の波板を支持体とし、木工用ボンドによって和紙を幾重にも貼り重ねた。その表面に鉄粉と塩を用いて酸化反応を起こし、腐食したような状態を生成した後、波板から剥がすことで作品を成立させている。

完成した作品は紙によって構成されているが、視覚的には実際のトタン波板と酷似しており、しかし本物ではない。そこには、現実の風景に似ていながらもどこかずれを孕んだ、虚構の風景が立ち現れる。

腐食のイメージは、身近な存在であるカイロの酸化反応から着想を得ており、日常に潜む化学反応や時間の痕跡を、視覚的な表層として定着させている。

A small shed made of corrugated metal stands quietly within a familiar rural landscape. This work originates from an attempt to transform such an ordinary, seemingly desolate scene—one that is often overlooked in daily life—into an artwork. I sought to recreate the sense of closeness and familiarity embedded in everyday surroundings through the choice of materials themselves. 

Layers of Japanese paper were repeatedly adhered onto a polycarbonate corrugated sheet using wood glue. Iron powder and salt were then applied to induce oxidation, creating a surface that appears corroded by time. After this process, the formed surface was peeled away from the corrugated sheet, allowing the work to exist independently. 

Although the object is physically made of paper, its appearance closely resembles actual corrugated metal. It is not an authentic fragment of the landscape, but rather a constructed illusion—a fictive scene that hovers between reality and imitation. The imagery of corrosion was inspired by the oxidation process found in everyday objects such as disposable heat packs, translating familiar chemical reactions and the passage of time into a visual and tactile surface.
